On 28 May, the port of Barbate in Cádiz will be the departure port for the fleet, which will set sail for Galicia, sailing parallel to the entire coast of the neighbouring country. Baiona, Portonovo and Ribeira are the Galician ports where the participants will stop before reaching Portosín to disembark and cover the last stretch of their journey on foot to Santiago de Compostela, the city where they are expected to arrive on the 13th of June.

The route is inspired by the route that, according to the Jacobean story, the disciples of St. James made with his remains and will allow participants to obtain the Compostela, the certificate issued by the Church of Compostela to those pilgrims who complete the journey. The Xacobea 2022 Nautical Crossing is open to any sailing boat between 8 and 16 metres in length and participants will be able to join at any port along the route to Baiona.
